Celebrity chef Robert Danvers, a food and wine connoisseur and middle-aged Lothario, thinks he has women figured out. At a party he meets Marion, a young, sexually liberated woman who, refreshingly, sees something else in him. Their new romance bubbles along smoothly, considering the contrast between sophisticated gourmet and the modish girl. Robert finds himself falling in love permanently, but complications arise when a young musician/linoleum layer reclaims Marion's heart.

The streets of Victorian England come to life as Olivia, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Olivia escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Olivia is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow takes her in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap her back, threatening Olivia’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.
