Two Ladies

Two Ladies

Play by Nancy Harris | Directed by Adam Rafferty

22 May - 6 June

As the Presidents of the United States and France clash over an international crisis during a diplomatic summit, down the hall their wives find themselves trapped together in a side room, distrustful of their husbands and each other.

Sophia has been bloodied by a protester outside the building, while world-weary Hélène is mortified by the idea of being stuck making small talk with someone so different to herself.

Two Ladies is drama splashed with both comedy and tragedy, grappling with big issues and petty grievances as Sophia and Hélène attempt to prove to the world that they are capable of far more than anyone imagines.

An evening with author Anna Johnston

Following her critically acclaimed debut novel, The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife, Anna Johnston will introduce audiences to her new novel When Lemons Give You Life.

When Lemons Give You Life is a sharply funny, heart-stirring novel about rediscovering joy when life has lost its flavour.

Retired Michelin-star chef Griff Barlow has lost his appetite. He’s done with grief, guilt and the beige slop they dare call food at Sunny Glen Aged Care Facility, where he now resides. Life’s given him all the lemons he can handle – so he breaks into the nursing home kitchen to bake himself one last tart. It’s supposed to be his final meal, but the act of cooking stirs a dormant joy. Soon, he’s regularly sneaking in after dark, serving up flavour and comfort to his fellow residents. Yet behind the apron is a lie so big it could destroy the one thing he has left to protect . . .

This is a free event, but bookings are required. Seating is limited.

The Secret Garden

by Frances Hodgson Burnett, PLAY Adapted by Neil DuffIELD

Directed by Kristina Doucouliagos

7 - 22 August 2026

The Secret Garden is based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s popular novel about a young orphan who rediscovers the joys of life after finding a long abandoned garden.

There she meets a hearty housekeeper and her spirited brother, a dour gardener, a cheerful robin, and her wilful, hysterical, and sickly cousin, Master Colin, whose wails she hears echoing through the house at night.

With the help of the robin, Mary finds the door to a secret garden, neglected and hidden for years. As the garden is transformed, Mary, Colin and eventually Mary’s uncle feel the magic of the garden and nature to bring new life and growth.

Chalkface

Chalkface

Play by Ange Betzein | Directed by Samantha Stone

6 - 21 March 2026

Chalkface is set in the fictional Victorian primary school of West Vale, where we meet Pat Novitsky, who returns from the summer holidays with her closest teacher friend Sue’s ashes. After years of dedication to the school, not one of her colleagues found time to attend Sue’s funeral, and Pat is feeling very jaded. We then meet Anna Park, who is a newly qualified teacher with a degree in Neuroplasticity. She is young, bright-eyed, energetic and has a therapy guinea pig.

Throughout the play, we start to see that not all is as it should be with the maintenance of the school and the office manager, Cheryl Filch, who spends a lot of her time near the shredder and keeping the stationery cupboard under strict lock and key. The Principal, Douglas Housten, seems out of touch with the other teachers and more interested in corporate babble speak and saving money than connecting with the young students in his care. Denise and Steve, the two other teachers, are dealing with their own issues too.

Book Week arrives, and things escalate from here…into an explosive ending.

Chalkface is a dark comedy with adult themes and coarse language and is not suitable for children.
