In the Spotlight with Lucas Petropoulos

Beaumaris Theatre regulars will remember Lucas from his brilliant performances in Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story and Anne & Gilbert the Musical, both of which required him to learn to play a new musical instrument! This year, Lucas plays Wayne in Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic. We asked Lucas to step into the spotlight so we can get to know him better.

What do you love about your character?

Wayne is just someone that you can’t help liking. He’s infinitely loyal, and he genuinely cares about all his friends. I think most people would have difficulty trying to find something they dislike about Wayne.

What are you most looking forward to with this production?

I cannot wait until all our hard work is stage ready. Things are already coming together nicely, but I can’t wait to see how things are in a few weeks.

Without giving anything away, what’s your favourite line of dialogue from the show?

“I’m not running away from a sexual experience.”

Who in the show is most like their character?

I think everyone has put a bit of themselves into their characters, so I don’t think anyone is “more” like their character than another.

What will the audience be talking about in the car home from this show?

Definitely how amazing the set and costumes are, but I like to think that they’ll reflect and realise that they also have a little Puff in them. In reality, I’m a Snake, but I definitely have a bit of Puff in me too.

When you are not on stage, where can you be found?

I love making cocktails for fun, so when I find an interesting recipe, I try it out (as long as I have the ingredients, of course, as making cocktails can be extremely expensive). I also love to play roleplaying games with my friends, which has helped me many times get into the brains of characters I have played.

What was your most memorable theatrical experience?

The first time I performed on stage. I was in the chorus for Pippin and had chills the whole night.

What was your first ever role on stage?

My first role was in my high school’s production of Grease. I played Doody, I was super stoked.

What is your dream role?

It would definitely have to be Jeremy from Be More Chill. I would lose my mind.
