In the Spotlight with Justine Garnes

Justine Garnes is making her Beaumaris Theatre debut as Megan in our upcoming production of Puffs. We asked Justine to step into the spotlight so we can get to know her better.

What do you love about your character?

I love how Megan doesn’t care what others think of her. She is on a mission and knows what she wants and no – one will stand in her way! She also has a lot of layers to her which is fun to play, and I love leaning into her accent.

What are you most looking forward to with this production?

I love the sense of community you get at Beaumaris. When you are in a play with a lot of talented people backstage and on stage, giving it their all and doing what they love for no other reason other than the love of it, it really fills my cup! I look forward to our first live performance when all our hard work comes together!

Without giving anything away, what’s your favourite line of dialogue from the show?

There are so many to choose from! I think probably this one…

Uncle Dave: “Fuuuuuu--------” *Closes door*

Uncle Dave: *opens door* “ -------------uuuuuucccckkk”

Who in the show is most like their character?

I actually think everyone has a bit of their character within them, but Natasha who plays Leanne is the sweetest in real life too! <3

What will the audience be talking about in the car home from this show?

THE BATTLE SCENE! I don’t want to give too much away with what to expect... but you are in for an epic musical ride!

I think the audience will also talk about how funny the writing of the play is. If you are a fan of H. Potter there are so many great fast paced one liners that will make you laugh on your way home.

When you are not on stage, where can you be found?

Looking after people and animals as an osteopath and animal osteopath. In my spare time you’ll find me playing ukulele or piano, and trying to teach my little girl how to play.

What was your most memorable theatrical experience?

Seeing my mum perform on stage as Kathy Seldon in ‘Singing in the Rain’ at our local amateur theatre community group when I was about 8 years old. I remember watching her and wanting to be just like her!

What was your first ever role on stage?

My first ever role was at school playing one of three jesters in a written remake of King Lear called ‘Karaoke King Lear’. It was one of the first times I heard the audience laugh at what I was saying, and I loved it! I have been hooked on performing comedy ever since!

What is your dream role?

Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady – “Move your bloomin’ arse!’ or Scaramouch in We Will Rock You. I just love her attitude!
