Director's Notes

As an unapologetically proud director, I could 'rave on' 'everyday' about our Buddy-brilliant production of Buddy- The Buddy Holly Story. I could say what a genius Mr Holly was and the legend he is and what an excellent script we had to work with and how extraordinarily wonderful and timeless his music is. I could boast about our clever and creative Musical Director, Choreographer, Producer, Set Designer, Lighting Designer, Sound Designer, Costume Designer and our hardworking backstage and tech team and our ridiculously talented band. I could sing the praises of our remarkable cast lead by the phenomenal Liam McWhinney and featuring the most gifted supporting cast who were exceptionally delightful to work with and direct.

I could gush and write effusively with exaggerated enthusiasm at length, however, I would like to reflect on the overwhelming reactions of our adoring audiences. The original ten shows sold out in record time and we added three additional shows which also sold out before our opening weekend was over.

Their positive feedback was music to our ears and they went wild with their rapturous applause and they cheered, took to their feet and danced and sang along with gay abandon. Every night it was a joy to stand in the foyer afterwards and hear them express their warm approval to the entire cast as they floated out of the theatre.  Many of them took the time to email or text us with words of admiration and acclaim. Buddy created a relationship between the cast, crew and audience which was quite unique, heart-warming and totally uplifting. It was a bonafide hit on every level and exceeded all our expectations.

Buddy was a dream to direct and stage and it was a rocking & rolling blast- OH BOY!
