In The Spotlight with Andrew Wild

Andrew Wild is making his Beaumaris Theatre debut in Arsenic and Old Lace this November at Beaumaris Theatre. We asked Andrew to step under the spotlight to get to know him better.

What was your first role in the theatre? (on stage or off)

Pharaoh in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat. It was High School, Year 12, 1983. So long ago now, it might have well have been in Ancient Egyptian times.

Who in the show is most like their character?

Hmmm.. A show in which most of the characters are either witless, insane or outright evil. Thanks for this question!! Lol. I need to tread carefully here. I would say Kate, who plays Elaine. They are both formidable, energetic and intelligent women.

Without giving anything away, what’s your favourite line of dialogue from the show?

With the accent?  “You’d tink dey knew vee vere bringink Mr. Spanolzo. Dat’s hospitality!”

What was your most memorable theatrical experience?

Falling head first into the Orchestra Pit at The Alexander Theatre during a production of Chicago. I was playing Amos and just before the final few notes of ‘Mr Cellophane’ I found myself somewhere I shouldn’t have been! I managed to keep singing and crawl my way out of the pit to sing the final note back on stage. A lot of the audience didn’t realise it wasn’t a choreographed stunt!

What place brings you the most joy?

My couch… eating ice cream… any flavour.

What is your favourite midnight snack?

Ice cream… any flavour.

What is your dream show to work on?

Given I started back in 1983, I am very lucky to have already ticked off so many of the shows on my Theatrical Bucket list. However, I would love to play The Man in the Chair in The Drowsy Chaperone.

When you are not at the theatre, where can you be found?

On the couch… eating ice cream… any flavour.
